Gemini 105Mc - Ultimate Form: Ultimate Function

Step onto a Gemini 105Mc and you'll quickly pick up on how evolved this cruising catamaran is. With a history of more than 930 Geminis sailing, every inch of the Gemini 105Mc has been closely scrutinized to ensure that the ultimate form provides the ultimate functionality. From the design of the anchor roller to the aft lockers, new Gemini sailors quickly come to appreciate the decades of careful development that is the 105Mc.

Cockpit

Even before you step aboard, you will appreciate the advanced design of the 105Mc's expansive cockpit. Side gates make boarding and loading a breeze (especially if you have pets). The hardtop canopy provides structured protection from the elements while still enabling the skipper and crew to view the main sail through two opening Lexan skylights.

Molded-in steps down to the cockpit floor provide a sure pathway. There's even an optional hammock on the stern from which you and your crew can take in the sights in comfort. The 'c' is 105Mc stands for 'convertible'. The 105Mc's cockpit greatly benefits you with the ability to completely enclose the area in either isinglass and canvas or screening. With the enclosure, it's easy to extend your sailing season into the colder months.

With the cabin door open, the optional cabin heater will turn the enclosed cockpit into a warm oasis. Once you're headed south, the screening provides you with a bug-free back porch. It would be hard to overstate the many benefits of the 105Mc's enclosure. Thoughtfully Designed Storage for Cruisers

The 105Mc provides so many storage options, we can understand our new owners' temptation to bring along absolutely everything - and some do. Of course, for any multihull to retain its absolute best performance, its best kept light. That said, the 105Mc performs beautifully when fully stocked with your crew, gear, fuel, water, food, and creature comforts. And with the amount of lockers, closets, drawers, and bins - your cabin and cockpit won't be disheveled.

On the exterior, the 105Mc provides a cavernous sail locker that can be used for plenty more than just sails. Moving aft, two stern lockers are large enough even to install a generator in one with room left over. Inside the cockpit, there is a dedicated propane locker, engine hatch access, and an additional storage locker. Inside, the 105Mc has evolved so that not only is there more storage - but it's designed to keep the boat light.

In the master cabin, custom teak cabinets with four bins provide lots of room for clothes. There's also a huge hanging locker. The 105Mc galley won't leave you wanting for space as there's a locker under the countertop, three drawers, two cabinets, and lots of additional storage behind two sliders under the dinette. Each aft cabin is equipped with a hanging locker, cabinet, and drawers. In the navigation station, there's a chart drawer, locker room, and still more space for equipment under the opposite side of the dinette. There's even storage under the dinette seats. Up front in the head, there's a medicine cabinet as well as towel locker.

Onboard Systems

  • DC Power System: Three #24 Deep Cycle Marine Batteries - 85 amps each w/ optional Solar Panel charging system. See DC Wiring Harness. 

  • Propane System: Two 20lb propane bottles, dedicated propane locker, dedicated shut-off valves for both stove and refrigerator, Xintec Propane Control System, Flame-Failure-Overide on Refrigerator and Stove. Average usage using both refrigerator and galley: 3 weeks.

  • DC Wiring Harness: #16 gauge 600° marine wire - 2 DC panels with breakers for Propane Monitor, Two 12 volt outlets, Sony AM/FM/CD Stereo, Three Flourescent Lights, Six Incandescent Lights. Exterior lights include masthead, anchor, running, cockpit, and deck lights. DC system also includes Water Pressure, Sump Pump, Fans, Instruments, Compass light, optional Cabin Heater, Xintec Propane System, VHF Radio.

  • AC Wiring Harness: 3-Core, #10 gauge, 600° stranded marine wire. 30 amp Hubble Shore Power Inlet, One AC panel with interlocks to prevent overload includes breakers for Port/Starboard 110v Outlets, Refrigerator (operates off 110v or Propane), Hot Water Heater, and optional 16,500 BTU Air Conditioner w/ reverse cycle. 

  • Fresh Water system includes 60 gallons fresh water (two 30 gallon water tanks housed under each aft cabin berth). Flojet pump for pressure water as well as foot pump in galley. Head includes separate shower and sink. Optional cockpit shower available.

Refined, Comfortable, Open - the Gemini 105Mc Interior

Discover the Gemini 105Mc's expansive interior complete with comfortable dinette seating for six, sleeping room for up to eight, a double-sided work surface in the galley with a front-loading 4 cubic foot refrigerator, a beautiful master cabin with an incredible view, roomy head with separate shower, and much more. New this year on the interior is a Stratipont Teak & Holly floorboards. This ultra-tough laminate floor stands up beautifully to even the roughest treatment.

Dinette

The 105Mc dinette provides comfortable seating for up to six persons and a folding custom teak table that drops down to form a king-size bed. The entire dinette is well ventilated with two large Bomar© hatches, twin fans, and slider-windows on the main door and side windows. Additional seating and/or storage is located beneath the switch panel on the port side of the entry to the dinette. Extensive storage for the galley and navigation area is located under both sides of the dinette.

Master Cabin

The master cabin is completely redesigned to allow for even more storage and features a queen-size berth with a panoramic forward view, easy steps up to the bed, plenty of storage with custom teak cabinetry, fans, a large changing area, an enormous hanging locker forward, and more. There's nothing like waking up to a gorgeous view from your queen-sized bed onboard the Gemini.

Galley

The galley of the 105Mc is twice the size of previous models and features a double-sided work surface, double burner propane stove-top with oven and separate broiler, a double stainless sink, easy access to the four cubic foot refrigerator (powered by propane or 110v), optional microwave, two AC outlets on either side of the galley, and plenty of accessible storage. The 105Mc has 60 gallons of water storage split between two 30 gallon tanks located under the aft cabin berths.

Head

The head features standing head room, marine toilet, single bowl sink, medicine cabinet, additional storage locker, and a separate shower head with a unique folding Plexiglass door for keeping a towel and change of clothes dry while you take a shower. The head also features a unique fresh-water flush for the toilet which provides a quick and easy way to virtually eliminate head-odor. The 18-gallon holding tank is owner-accessible from the sail locker and can be gravity drained or emptied from the pump-out on deck.

Aft Cabins

Each of the aft cabins contains a "cozy double" bed, hanging storage lockers and drawer, and plenty of ventilation thanks to Bomar hatches on each side and optional fans. The area underneath each bed houses a 30 gallon water tank for a total of 60 gallons. There is also a six gallon water heater, various seacocks for the engine and optional air conditioner, and room for a modular water maker.

105Mc - Proven Hull Shapes

First introduced on the original Gemini 105M, the hull shape of the 105Mc is still revolutionary in the multihull industry. The hulls of the Gemini 105Mc are shallow and shaped much like a "teardrop" which requires little force to move the 105Mc through the water yet it also provides a high load carrying capacity (450 lb per hull per 1").

The bridge deck has 39" of clearance at the bow. This, combined with the lack of pitching and wave making, translates to a comfortable ride with no heeling. The shape has been tested and proven in a wide variety of conditions... surfing down 30' waves in the mid-Atlantic, cruising to Hawaii, or cruising down the Intracoastal waterway.

The Gemini hulls provide many advantages considering their weight and structural rigidity. The entire hull mold is one complete unit including the centerboard cases. This single unit eliminates any secondary bonding down the keel, at the bridge deck or around the centerboard cases making for a far stronger hull. The result - a faster, stronger, and more stable platform that provides excellent sailing performance.

Strong, Powerful Rig for Extensive Cruising in All Conditions

The 105Mc gets up to speed quickly with her Selden minimal fractional rig with a single adjustable back stays on a 1 ft. crane. This new, efficient full battened, big head mainsail goes behind the backstay improving drive and reducing heel. The advanced design of this Dave Beirig designed sail allows it to easily pass through the backstay.

This new rig allows us to offer an optional large, lightweight masthead-furling drifter. It is attached 1 ft above the roller genoa and tacks down to a curved track between the bows. The drifter is ideal hard to windward in light airs or off the wind as an asymmetric spinnaker tacked to windward The optional 200% roller screacher is mounted on a curved track to enable you to pull it to windward for maximum efficiency.

This unique system is a cruisers dream; a spinnaker substitute that can be rolled in and out, as well as a racers option for its ability to be used for upwind work in light airs. The Gemini 105Mc deck is configured for an anchor pass-through the bowsprit. This enables the option of a 200% roller screecher sail. The base of the 420 square foot sail is mounted on a curved track between the bows. This sail is a racer's dream in light air as it can be used on any point of sail.

For the cruiser, the sail offers an excellent alternative to a spinnaker as the track enables the foot of the sail to be pulled windward on a reach or broad reach. The sail is also a roller furler so it extremely easy to work with. The photo to the right shows the track setup in detail.

The Gemini 105Mc Secret Weapon

Throughout the history of the Gemini Catamaran, the centerboards have always been her secret weapon and the reason why she points so well to windward. The lift-able boards provide plenty of 'grip' while going to windward yet are easily retractable. So going downwind, the boards are raised thus minimizing drag and maximizing performance.

The 105Mc's centerboards combine the pivoting, kick up cruising convenience of centerboards, with the remarkably efficient shape of dagger boards. The centerboards in the Gemini 105Mc have an advanced asymmetric shape that lifts the boat to windward with reduced drag.

The boards are now molded with closed cell foam, which ensures they will last a lifetime. The centerboards case has a Plexiglas cover enabling the operator to see whether they are up or down. Centerboards are operated from inside and will easily kick up if the boat is grounded The boards extend 5' 6" in the down position and 18" when up.

The First-Ever Underhung, Lift-able Rudder System in a Cruising Catamaran

The rudders on the Gemini 105Mc were actually introduced to the boat in 1994 with the 3400 models. The revolutionary design has been so successful, there has been little need to alter the system. They are mechanically joined through the steering system and will steer the boat at 3' or 18" of water without putting any extra load on the wheel.

In fact, the Gemini exhibits little to no weather helm. Her steering is precise, balanced, and easy. Using two sets of lines, the rudders can be raised or lowered - and automatically raise if and when the boat enters shallow water. A solid 1 ½" stainless steel post that runs through the middle of each rudder making it exceptionally strong. The rudders are very well balanced and easily kick up if they hit the bottom.

Gemini Power - The Westerbeke 30B Diesel Engine

The Gemini is powered by a 27 hp Westerbeke diesel with 55-amp alternator and heat exchanger for hot water. It is designed and built using experience gained in supplying over 1,100 whale boat engines to the United States Navy. The greater piston Bore of the 30B Three delivers more power without sacrificing smooth and quiet operation.

To minimize engine maintenance, the 30B Three is fresh water cooled and equipped with a simple control system. Easy access to all servicing points and a self-bleeding fuel system allows easy installation and routine maintenance. The engine weighs 274 pounds and drives a lift-able, steer-able outdrive leg from Sillette marine with a large efficient propeller.

With this configuration, the Gemini can motor in as little as 20 inches of water and when sailing, the drive leg and prop are pumped up and clear of the water. With no fixed prop in the water, there's little to no drag and nothing to get fouled or bent on trap lines or the bottom. A seacock with fresh water flush makes winterizing an easy process.

The engine compartment is lined with Soundown lead and foam and the engine mounts have been selected for minimum vibration. There are two 18 gallon diesel tanks with fuel shut off and two filters. The instrument panel contains a tachometer, hour meter, and oil pressure, voltage, and water temperature gauges. The Westerbeke diesel is fresh water cooled with a self-priming fuel system. The average cruising speed under power is 7 knots.
