HAVE IT ALL... Luxury and performance reached exciting new dimensions with the introduction of the Viking Yacht 61 Convertible at the 2001 Miami International Boat Show. When her sibling the Viking 61 Convertible premiered at the fall boat shows last year, her reputation was well underway. Viking Yacht has always believed the best way to prove a boat's caliber is to send her offshore to see what she is made of. So all summer long, the Viking 61 scoured the deep-water canyons while the factory team tweaked and dialed in her performance parameters. Now the 61 Convertible is poise to repeat this success.

The 61 Convertible is another Viking work of art. The 61C provides superb visibility from its climate-controlled wheelhouse and clearly demonstrates that no other boat builder can match Viking’s commitment to excellence in luxury, performance and engineering. In addition, a spiral staircase is available that provides convenient access from the salon. An exterior helm station on the after bulkhead makes docking and backing down on big fish a snap, while a comfortable jump seat provides a great place to watch the action.

Fishing Is Her Mission
The 170-square foot cockpit is efficiently designed to deliver the uncompromising needs of the tournament fisherman. Form follows function at the rear bulkhead where five tackle drawers, a bait freezer, sink and rigging station are built into a molded console, along with engineroom access. A deep, insulated well that doubles as the step into the salon serves as a chill box for drinks. The space-saving one-piece anodized aluminum athwartships ladder reduces clutter and provides safe and quick access to the flying bridge. A 53" long by 20" deep by 20" wide fishwell is recessed in the sole, flanked by twin stowage wells that can be converted into livewells. Fresh and saltwater washdowns are standard, and Glendinning Cablemasters are on both sides of the cockpit to simplify shorepower hookups. In keeping with the neat appearance, power plugs easily fit through the transom hawse pipes. A new transom door design features a one-piece coaming for a tighter fit to eliminate rattling and chatter underway, or when backing down. Oval exhaust ports add a custom touch.

Luxury At Sea
The standard interior is a three stateroom, three head arrangement with an amidships owner’s suite that features an athwartships king-size island berth and extraordinary stowage including a huge cedar-lined hanging locker. A full entertainment system consisting of TV, VCR, stereo and CD player is provided. A four-stateroom version also is available. The central vacuum system and washer and dryer are conveniently located in the companionway,

The galley is a sleek affair with its low-profile styling, Corian countertops and slab-fronted varnished teak cabinetry. The refrigerator and freezer are conveniently built in below the counter with deep drawer capacity. Opposite the galley is an inviting settee with a high-gloss varnished teak dinette table.

The salon has a second table between the U-shaped lounge with more rod stowage underneath. An entertainment center faces the lounge. The interior furnishings are professionally designed for a luxurious ambiance, yet durable for life at the 1000-fathom curve. Special touches like the air conditioning registers hidden in the valances in the salon and master stateroom exemplify Viking’s attention to the smallest details.

The Viking Difference
Viking Yachts, long recognized as the pinnacle of marine engineering, spools up the pace aboard the new 61 Convertible with its stand up engine room with nearly 6’ overhead clearance on centerline. Twin 1,300 hp to 1,480 hp diesels are secured to powder-coated steel engine beds that are bolted to dedicated transverse stringers. Fuel capacity is 1,800 gallons, more than any boat in its class. To facilitate maintenance and improve all around accessibility to the equipment, a separate pump room is forward of the engines. A 20 kW Onan generator is standard.
