More info

First offered as a splendid custom boat and then available as a production version, the Davis 61 is one of the most exciting sportfisher superyachts to appear recently on the scene. Designed by Gary VanTassel and built by Buddy Davis, the 61 will become a member of the elite group of light-but-strong sportfishing machines that are usually described in high-performance terms.

From an editor of Motorboating Magazine: "I learned about the 61's sea-keeping qualities during an amazing ride in choppy water aboard Fish Hawk, the original custom model."

"At top speed, Fish Hawk plowed right through some hefty waves without once pounding or shuddering. The 61's speed and comfort are planned in both the design and in the extensive use of exotic construction materials. Kevlar, Divinycell foam core, unidirectional glass and modified epoxy resin all combine to produce a seakindly 60,000lb. boat that, reportedly, uses only 60gph at 28 knots.

The 61's layout was well thought out and beautifully contructed. In the production of 61s, Buddy has expressed a new boat-building philosophy. He believes that owners should be able to do what they want with interiors, so he started quoting boat prices without interior cabinetry. Some hard-core campaigners don't want posh interiors, while others can have gotten subcontractors to go all out. Whatever the interior, the 61s should be head-turners wherever they go.
