After a successful 10-year career in real estate sales, management and training, Dianne met and married Dick Simon in 1981 which led to a career change when in 1982 she and Dick together formed a new Indycar racing team. They owned, managed and operated: Dick was owner-driver, mechanic, engineer and truck driver. Dianne paid the bills, made all the travel arrangements, designed uniforms and race car graphics; it was a real Mom and Pop shop with about 5 employees.
Over time, the team grew and there were secretaries, bookkeepers, mechanics, engineers totaling between 60 and 70 employees. Dianne managed the administrative side of the business, and Dick the technical/racing part of the business. The team was originally housed in a converted fire station in Claremont, Indiana but in 1991, moved into a new, state-of-the-art race shop complete with paint booth, fabrication shop, drive-thru work bays for three 18-wheelers and a glass atrium showroom entry with dramatic spiral staircase fit for Beverly Hills. The new building was designed by Dick and Dianne, the race shop in back by Dick and the entry and offices by Dianne and is still today, a premier race shop in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Reflecting his need for speed, in 1991, Dick and Dianne became the west coast dealer for Fountain Powerboats in Dana Point, California. Gradually, they expanded the lines of boats they represented to include ocean cruisers and fishing boats and ultimately became one of the largest dealers on the west coast.
They left the boating industry for about five years between 2003 to 2008 and moved for a short time to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. After returning to Dana Point in 2008, they opened up Dick Simon Yachts, a yacht brokerage in Dana Point Harbor, in mid 2009 and have since that time built the brokerage into one of the most actively engaged brokerages in South County.
Dianne’s interests include her home and family, art and painting, both watercolor and oil in addition to pencil renderings; quilting, knitting and crochet; gardening (especially hummingbird friendly plants and succulents).
In addition to her other interests and activities, Dianne has the special privilege of being a Bible teacher with San Juan Capistrano Community Bible Study, an international, interdenominational Christian organization dedicated to making disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ in our communities through caring, in-depth Bible study available to all (http://sanjuan.cbsclass.org ).
