Elegant design and superior engineering in one neat package... First impressions of a yacht should ideally come in conditions close to how it will be used, so the first full day of spring should have been perfect for touring the sights of Casco Bay off Portland, Me., on hull number one of the Back Cove 33. But spring in New England can be cruel, one day showing us what's in store as summer approaches; another day, reminding us that winter is still in charge. And this was "another" day. The temperature at 0830 was 17 degrees Fahrenheit. Though brilliant sunlight streamed through the large windows of the pilothouse to warm my face and shoulders, it was still not enough to coax the hat off my head.
