I'm it, I'm right; I'm what you've been looking for'... The Pacific Seacraft 31

Sailing editor John Ira Petty of Houston has examined countless sailboats over the years. Yet one boat recently inspired Petty to write of "love at first sight": The Pacific Seacraft 31.

"Every once in a while you might walk around a corner and see something that seems to say to you: 'I'm it; I'm right; I'm what you've been looking for, "writes Petty. "I have to confess something akin to that kind of reaction when I first saw the Pacific Seacraft 31.

"Able to cross oceans, easy to handle"
The Pacific Seacraft 31 is a new cruising design from the board of renowned naval architect W.I.B. Crealock. She was born of the same wisdom that conceived the immensely successful Pacific Seacraft Crealock 37 and 24. The 31's hull configuration, rig and underbody are very similar to her two forebears, yet she boasts a proportionately broader beam and longer waterline. The result is outstanding speed, comfortable motion and superb ease of handling.

"The Pacific Seacraft 31 is designed to be a pocket cruiser, able to, cross oceans yet easy to handle," write Petty. Her moderate displacement contributes to both comfort and speed. An efficient sail plan and highly effective underbody produce the kind of performance that has generally been associated with the all-out racer. The 31 is fast, powerful and easy to handle. Control and comfort have been central to her entire design. Her balance is so positive that she is easily single-handed, even under adverse conditions.

Safety and comfort
"The hull is shapely and the boat's appearance salty and traditional," continues Petty. "Some of the first impression comes from the boat's 10 polished bronze ports and other bronze deck hardware. The external chain plates add to it. Everything is functional, and looks it."

The Pacific Seacraft 31 is built with the same exacting attention to quality and detail that is the hallmark of all Pacific Seacraft yachts. Thirty-inch tall double lifelines, wide side decks and massive bulwarks help you go forward with confidence. High cockpit coamings provide refuge from wind and spray. An ingenious locker utilizing the otherwise empty space of the coaming provides fully vented and drained stowage for propane or CNG.

Two oversized cockpit drains allow fast self-bailing. A bilge pump mounted through the seat riser is always accessible from the helm. Details that can help assure the safety and comfort of any passage, from a weekend's getaway to an extended ocean voyage, are integral to the Pacific Seacraft 31.

Security at anchor
The Pacific Seacraft 31 reflects an understanding that security at anchor is as important as security at sea. A massive stainless steel bow platform incorporates two stout rollers, well separated to allow for twin bow anchors. A heavy tubular framework holds the anchor rodes captive, preventing them from leaping down the side decks in even the most violent conditions. The 31 boasts two 12" bow mooring cleats with four-inch hawse pipes; two 10" stern mooring cleats with nine-inch chocks; and two eigh-tinch spring cleats amidships. Forward is a double chain locker for two anchor rodes. Aft is a chain locker and roller, to assure that your stern anchor is always ready to go.

The proper way. The Pacific Seacraft way
As with every Pacific Seacraft yacht, all winches, cleats and other deck hardware are solid bronze and back-plated. The heavy teak caprail is handfitted with butterfly joints. The proper way. The Pacific Seacraft way.

Belowdecks, rich hand rubbed teak joinery radiates in proper counterpoint to a soft white matte finish. Fresh air and sunlight stream through ten polished bronze opening ports. Additional ventilation is further assured by two dorade vents and a large Boomar hatch forward.

Pacific Seacraft's eye for detail and demand for uncompromised integrity have earned continued respect and praise. Author Ferenc Mate', whose books include The Finely Fitted Yacht and Best Boats writes in his newest book, The World's Best Sailboats, that "without a doubt the most outstanding cross section of cruising boats in this book is built by Pacific Seacraft Corporation. "FORTUNE magazine recently selected Pacific Seacraft Corporation for its issue devoted to the 100 American products recognized to be the finest of their kind in the world- the only sail boat builder represented.

The Pacific Seacraft 31 proudly continues a distinguished legacy. Her uncompromised construction inspires a confidence that can make dreams come true. Her superb design, outstanding accommodations and seakindly disposition ensure that your special paradise-whether just across the bay or on the other side of the world-is well within reach. Come, feel the assurance of Pacific Seacraft quality.
