With the proliferation of boat models over 40 feet coming to market in the past few years, it was inevitable that Tiara would build one as well. But it wouldn't be just another like the others. "We can do that better," is what John Garland, Tiara's Vice President of Design, thought. "We can do it with a difference." The main salon offers ample room to socialize. The main salon offers ample room to socialize.

Not only did the new Tiara Sovran 5200 turn out to be a superb example of the company's craftsmanship, but it also signaled a new styling turn. Several design features place this 50-footer in a unique category apart from its competitors. First and foremost is the above deck layout. "We understand the wants our customer base, so we designed the boat with large social areas on the main deck and in the cockpit," Garland said.

Two large bench seats surround a removable table in the cockpit. The unique dual transom doors provide access to a spacious swim platform that easily holds a personal watercraft or tender. A crane that hides away completely when not in use also serves as a passarelle for easy boarding.

The enormous main deck features Tiara's trademark standup helm. On many boats, when you try to drive from anything but a sitting position, your vision is obscured by the windshield frame. On the Tiara Sovran 5200, a vast expanse of glass surrounds you for excellent visibility to all quarters. And that windshield is part of an overall restyling effort that has changed the look of this and other new Tiaras.

The Sovran 5200 performs as handsomely as it looks. The Sovran 5200 performs as handsomely as it looks. Garland said the new Tiara look is less square or boxy. "It started with the windshield and extended to all areas of the boat," he explained. Instead of the traditional aluminum construction, the Sovran 5200 sports a molded fiberglass frame that flows upward from the deck. "I put a dome, a bulbous curve area forward of the windshield. We wanted to integrate it to the deck and make it one flowing line." The radar arch was done in relief to accent its lines.

The Sovran 5200's crowning touch is its hardtop. Although an option, Garland says every one built so far has been ordered with it. "The hardtop has a synergy with the arch and the rest of the boat," he explained. "No one can imagine the 5200 without it." But it wasn't always so for Garland. "When we built the first one and put it in the water, we got used to seeing it without the hardtop. I was on vacation when they put it on. I was afraid it would detract from the design, because I had fallen in love with the boat without it," he continued. "When I got back and saw it, I thought okay, now we're all set, lets keep it that way.

This is the first time a hardtop has improved the look of one of our boats." In the cabin, the same socializing spaciousness continues. The main salon features a pair of opposing seating areas. The one to port is U-shaped and built around the pedestal dining table. On the starboard side, an L-shaped lounge compliments the built-in entertainment center.

There is a full galley, complete with all the appliances and counter space to prepare a meal in grand style.

The Sovran 5200 has two staterooms. The master forward has a queen-size pedestal bed that's accessible from three sides.

The guest cabin can be configured with double twin-size berths or as a king with the use of an insert. Both sleeping areas have access to their own heads, complete with stall showers. The boat is full of amenities, creature comforts and surprises, like the placement of the washer/dryer under the cabin steps. "People looking at the boat search around for one, and when we show them where it is, they're surprised," Garland added. "Well look at this, they say. It doesn't take up close space. It's out of the way yet convenient. The perfect place."

Of course, the handling of the Sovran 5200 is everything you'd expect in a Tiara. The hull design is built to take on the weather and bring you home safely. A merger of function and style resulted in a bow flair that all but eliminates spray and softens the ride. "It was a graceful way to impart seakeeping ability," Garland pointed out. The Tiara Sovran 5200 truly is a crown jewel. Whether running or at anchor, its lines are enticing. "It looks fast standing still," John Garland beamed proudly.

Innovative Construction
Hull construction involves vacuum-bagged lamination using epoxy resin instead of the polyester. The process produces thinner, stronger, lighter GRP that won't absorb water and reduces hull weight by half. This unique process also produces strong, low-density, PVC foam stringers, transversals and balsa-cored bulkheads.

Uncompromised Craftsmanship
Engine room access is concealed in the lower cockpit aft facing lounge seat, or it can also be entered through the upper cockpit drop-down hatch.

Refined Functionality

The vast, distortion-free, curved-glass Taylor windshield panels provide uninhibited visibility astern as well as forward.

Ultimate Comfort

The Cool Helm upper cockpit climate control system features eight defroster plenums under the windshield, four on steering console and two more near portside L-lounge with storage.

Built With The Boater In Mind

An optional set of forward shore power connections are available, mounted in the chain locker to make bow-in docking an easy choice.
