THE INVENTION OF THE MAGELLANO... THE SILHOUETTE OF A GREAT TRAVELLER, ideal for cruising in a range of sea conditions, this is the Business card of the Magellano 50, complete with a semi-displacement hull, compact lines and perfectly balanced volumes.

The vertical bow belies its cruising ability, while the windows along the hull and the glass-clad deckhouse stems from a design focused on unprecedented amounts of natural light and an uninterrupted connection with the marine environment.

The somewhat futuristic lines of the deckhouse may catch your eye, but it is the hull that really makes the Magellano collection unique. It has been dubbed “Dual Mode” because it enables the Magellano to behave either in displacement or planing mode, depending on boat speed. It is an innovative work, sculpted from a solid block with skill and technology for the purposes of providing maximum comfort in all sea conditions.

Cruising comfort.

The hull is V-shaped in the bow areas where it rises to form a vertical bow that comes to a sharp edge. In this area, the important volumes below the surface ensure strong buoyancy and minimize pitching, resulting in smooth, comfortable cruising even in rough seas.

Course stability.

The Dual Mode hull even has a positive impact on directional stability. At low speeds in displacement mode, the Dual Mode hull’s strength is its greater waterline length compared to other hull types; this advantage is reinforced by the skeg that extends along the full length of the keel. The combination of these factors produces a sizable, constantly submerged lateral surface. As a result, the hull is less exposed to current and wind forces, a real advantage for course stability.

Reduced energy use.

The speed range of 12-18 knots is the Dual Mode hull’s maximum range of efficiency in terms of energy use. The hull of the Magellano reduces drag by approximately 13% over a planing vessel with the same waterline and dislocation. This performance is due not only to waterline length but also to the smoothness with which the boat transitions from displacement to planing modes. The typical form of a rounded keel displacement hull morphs into an innovative design with flat surfaces for the aft dihedral and broad chines defined by accentuated corners that run along the hull from the bow to stern.

Azimut Magellano 50 Side Profile

This is an exceedingly comfortable boat, meant to be enjoyed as much inside as out, underway or at anchor. The bow has a settee area with facing sofas, an innovation unique to the Magellano 50: elegant but also seaworthy with roomy and easily accessible stowage. The plate glass windscreen with central section enables an uninterrupted stern-bow view, at the same time bringing natural light to the stair below as well as the lower dinette.

High bulwarks and grabrails surround the Magellano 50 cockpit, creating a safe backdrop for six friends gathered around a table.

Azimut Magellano 50 Deck

The main deck is accessed through a completely retractable, folding door. Past the galley area, the dinette accommodates guests. A cabinet along the starboard side provides necessary stowage for cruising in total comfort. Additional stowage is provided in the ceiling, for a total to 220 litres. The style is simple and marine-like: wood and steel are combined in rectilinear forms to make the most of the space and satisfy practical requirements.

The owner’s cabin amidships combines elegance with classic marine styling and comfort. The walls are lined with fine American walnut panelling. Full-height wardrobes offer more than enough space to pack away and store high-quality clothing and personal items. A vanity area, set at 45 degrees in the corner opposite the head of the bed, rounds out the sensation of grand comfort. The light filled quality generated by the large window on the right bulwark is amplified by a sophisticated play of reflections

The reflective glass of the deckhouse has special ANTI-UV film to reduce heat gain; as a result, the amount of energy required for cooling is also reduced. This special film is just one of the environmentally friendly innovations developed by the AzimutBenetti Group R&D department. Perhaps the most important of these is the option to install a hybrid propulsion system (traditionalelectric), enabling the boat to manoeuvre in port at night-time as well as in areas that prohibit cruising via “traditional” propulsion.

Azimut Magellano 50 Windows

Versatile use, flexible configurations, environmentally friendly, safety criteria compliant design including high gunwale, wide walkways, handrails and steel fittings always within reach, Class A approved, easy to manoeuvre, manageable size and energy use, the Magellano 50 is an invitation to all those boat owners who want to drive their own boats and take family or close friends out for a cruise in total relaxation.
