FULL BROCHURE | EQUIPMENT LIST | REVIEW (CRUISING WORLD BOAT OF THE YEAR 1996)REVIEW (SAILING MAGAZINE) |

The Island Packet exclusive full foil keel serves as the foundation of the island packet concept and unifies the performance of modern hull and foil designs with the superior seakeeping, comfort and safety of a traditional long keel. This exclusive design adds numerous benefits for the cruising sailor: superior protection from damage or fouling for both rudder and prop, immensely strong integral hull and keel construction, and moderate draft with exceptional stability. While those onboard may most appreciate the easy motion and enhanced steering qualities that are unique to a long waterline, long keel configuration, the cruising sailor will undoubtedly be equally delighted with the performance attributes that have been proven time and time again in victories in prestigious offshore events.

The cutter rig has long been accepted as the most manageable and versatile rig for the cruising sailor. As the standard configuration for the Island Packet 45, convenience and control are further enhanced as both the genoa and self-tending staysail are fitted with roller furling systems. All necessary control lines, including a dual single-line main reefing system, are led aft to allow routine sail handling from the comfort and security of the cockpit. Coaming bins with hinged covers provide ample room for quick and tidy stowage of all lines.

The keel stepped, double spreader rig provides superior mast support while enhancing performance. With a generous sail plan for a yacht of this displacement and length, there is ample total area to ensure boat speed in light air. In addition, the power to carry sail in a breeze with excellent windward performance is provided by the easily drive, long waterline hull form with its high resistance to heel and leeway. Three manageable sails allow a small crew to handily set a variety of well-balanced combinations over a wide range of conditions.

The dignified, solidly built Island Packet 45 emerged from a field of 32 prime candidates to win the boat building industry's coveted Cruising World 1996 Overall boat of the year award." - Cruising World Magazine, 1996

On deck, the well-planned layout provides the safety and security needed in offshore conditions without sacrificing comfort or ease of use. The spacious, comfortable and practical cockpit features long, contoured seats, a fresh water shower, an insulated beverage locker for quick access to snacks and drinks, locking seat hatches with access to a deep storage locker to starboard and a storage tray to port, recessed winch handle pockets and two covered line bins for storage of sail control lines. The raised bridge-deck, locking companionway boards, and large cockpit scuppers help insure safety at sea.

Full length handrails, double lifelines and recessed fore and side decks with raised bulwarks provide secure footing when underway. The integral bowsprit/anchor platform provides quick access to ground tackle that is always ready for immediate use. A premium, console mounted rack and pinion steering system is employed for its smooth, sensitive and responsive control and rugged reliability. This system has proven itself in hundreds of thousands of miles of cruising in every imaginable condition and has established itself superior to any other wheel steering system available.

Integrated into the custom steering console are the single lever engine control, custom grid compass and hinged cockpit table. A separate raised helmseat with padded backrest and seat gives the skipper exceptional comfort and ensures both good visibility and ample room.

With one of the most innovative, practical and well-appointed interiors to ever appear in a yacht of this size range, the 45's accommodations are focused on both the requirements of extended cruising and a comfortable lifestyle when living aboard. Two large double staterooms, well separated for privacy and each with its own head and shower, combine with an expansive central living area to provide a gracious setting for entertaining or cruising with family and friends.

The feeling of bright, open spaciousness and a natural "flow" throughout is conveyed immediately upon entering the interior. The big galley, convenient to both the salon and cockpit, yet out of interior traffic, wraps around and aft to starboard. The large ice-box is well insulated for extended cruising in the tropics and pre-installed electrical wiring facilitates installation of owner selected refrigeration systems. An extensive number of convenience features further adds to the function and safety of this gourmet's galley.

Immediately forward is a separate navigation station. This well-organized area features a leather arm chair that swivels and adjusts on a recessed cabin sole track, a wide nav table with hinged top and a stowage tray below, and electronic panels with extra space for the mounting of owner selected equipment. Additional storage cabinets and a drainage wet locker outboard combine to make this area convenient and functional.

A molded slip-resistant sole is provided in the galley, companionway, nav and head areas for improved footing and easy maintenance, while the salon and staterooms have varnished teak and holly soles. A teak grate at the base of the companionway is provided with a recessed, lift-out dust bin for housekeeping convenience.

The inviting spacious main salon features full length settees upholstered with designer fabric over five inch thick premium upholstery foam. A large, quick-folding dining table allows for gracious entertaining or, when retracted against the bulkhead mounted bottle and glass rack, leaves an unobstructed wide salon sole. Bookshelves and cabinets are outboard of both settee backrests, with room for an array of audio and video equipment and reading material.

The elegant owner's stateroom forward spans the entire beam of the yacht and features a large offset double berth with easy access along its entire port side. A bureau with generous storage bins, a large cedar lined hanging locker, and deep storage drawers will make one feel right at home.

The spacious and private forward head includes a large wraparound countertop with an oval polished stainless steel sink, storage cabinets above and below, full mirrors port and starboard, and a separate vanity table with hinged top storage tray. The luxurious shower area includes a large teak seat, pull around curtain, and bulkhead mounted shower unit.

The roomy aft stateroom is equally inviting and has private access from the companionway area. A bright and airy environment is ensured with three opening ports and an overhead hatch. Cedar lined bureau compartments, hanging locker, dressing seat and conveniently placed reading lights make this an inviting suite for guests or crew.

The aft head, with its wide teak shower seat and curved backrest, large wraparound vanity, oval polished sink, teak framed mirror, and pull around shower curtain provides particularly nice facilities for guests and general use and is easily accessed from either the aft cabin or the main salon via a sliding louvered door.

The entire interior conveys a sense of comfort and style in a harmonious blend of designer fabrics, textures and surfaces. Carefully selected teak, chosen for both grain pattern and color, is meticulously handcrafted and varnished for a furniture quality fit and finish. Fresh air and natural light are generously provided with numerous opening ports, hatches and deck ventilators, adding to the overall feeling of comfort and spaciousness.

Easy access to every part of the engine and related equipment is provided through hinges side panels and fore and aft covers. A molded engine bed with integral drop pan combines with fastidious mechanical, electrical and plumbing detail to make this machinery space every bit as attractive as it is functional and reliable. Extensive sound reduction measures include lead lined foam insulation and gasketed doors, further enhancing cruising comfort.

All tankage is centrally located under the cabin sole maximizing storage elsewhere in the yacht, minimizing trim changes with varying tank levels, and adding to the overall stability of the yacht. Large capacity tankage allows exceptional range for the 45.

From the design of their molds to the application of their structural laminates, Island Packet Yachts has become an industry leader in fiberglass molding technology and quality, insuring peace of mind and long term trouble-free service. Their exclusive PolyClad hull gel system features a 10-year limited warranty against osmotic blisters, while the deck uses gels specially formulated for long term resistance to crazing cracking. Gel coats are applied with high volume/low pressure (HVLP) application equipment using statistical process controls to provide an exceptional finish as well as minimize manufacturing emissions.

The hull of the 45 is built of solid triaxial laminate, providing the highest level of impact and puncture resistance and over twice the tensile strength of conventional woven roving laminates. The deck is cored with their exclusive PolyCore, an extremely tough inorganic matrix of glass microspheres and resin that is impervious to rot and delamination, eliminating the deterioration associated with conventional deck core materials. PloyCore also allows specific engineering and design controls that other core materials cannot provide, further enhancing component quality. All Island Packet 45 structural laminates and internal reinforcements are designed to meet or exceed ABS standards.

Their modern 100,000 sq.ft production facility houses the entire manufacturing process- from design and tooling through shipping- insuring the highest quality finished yachts through the use of vigilant manufacturing controls, premium materials and fastidious craftsmanship.
