48' KONG & HALVORSEN DAWN 48 (1983) OFF MARKET
When Harvey Halvorsen of the famous firm Kong & Halvorsen brought in designer German Frers to work on a new type of large cruising yacht, he seemed to be asking a lot-for luxury, IOR racing speed and two-person handling. Here are the results, and Halvorsen says "There has never been anything like it before: a sailing vessel combining the comforts and craftsmanship of a luxurious cruising yacht and the high-tech efficiency of a Grand Prix racer." The hull makes few IOR rating compromises and carries the same sail area as its no-frills relations of comparable size. Top speed under either sail or power is guaranteed to be over eight knots. The Dawn 48 powers through the water quicker than any other sailing yacht of her size.
