Swan 53's came in two configurations: a tall rig joined with an elliptical keel for a lively performance; or a shorter rig with a shallow draft Scheel keel for cruising. 

Belowdecks there are sleeping accommodations for six: a double berth aft, and two forward cabins with upper and lower single berths. There are two heads: one with a dual entry from the main salon and the owner's stateroom; and a second, forward to service the guest cabins. All wash basins are porcelain, and the marine sanitation devices are electrically operated. 

The galley has a four-burner stove, a double stainless steel sink, and a refrigerator/freezer with a total capacity of 10.2cu ft. There is a generous L-shaped settee in the salon and a double cushioned seat flanking the dinette.

Base price at her debut in 1986 was $2,200,000 ($5,063,134 in 2018 dollars).
