Outstanding Design

The Pacific Seacraft 31 is a new cruising design from the board of renowned naval architect W.I.B. Crealock. She was born of the same wisdom that conceived the immensely successful Crealock 37 and 34. The 31's hull configuration, rig and underbody are very similar to her two forebears, yet she boasts a proportionately broader beam and longer waterline. The result is outstanding speed, comfortable motion, and superb ease of handling.

The interior of the Pacific Seacraft 31 is a product of Joseph Artese Design, and marks an entirely new and refreshing departure from earlier cruising interiors. Artese is a specialist in innovative yacht interiors, having received much acclaim for his most recent work in the 72' ketch Victoria and the 90' sloop Whitefin. Artese has applied his unique experience to the Pacific Seacraft 31, developing an interior that is fresh, contemporary and versatile.

William I. B. Crealock Author, lecturer and one of the world's most experienced and respected designers of offshore sailing yachts, he is one of the few naval architects who can draw from the personal experience of eight years of blue water cruising. In the course of his career, he had designed many a great yacht and is now the exclusive designer for Pacific Seacraft.

The Proper Yacht

A successful ocean voyaging yacht must gracefully blend structural integrity, comfort and performance. If she is lacking in any of these, she is robbing the cruising sailor of the joy of sail. She must safely deliver him to distant shores, while reminding him that the passage itself is a profound pleasure.

Pacific Seacraft 31 Nav Station

The Pacific Seacraft 31's moderate displacement contributes to both comfort and speed. An efficient sail plan and highly effective underbody produces the kind of performance that has generally been associated with the all-out racer. The 31 is fast, powerful and easy to handle. Control and comfort have been central to her entire design. Her balance is so positive that she is easily singlehanded, even under adverse conditions.

The Pacific Seacraft 31's elegant bow flows smoothly into a long keel and sturdy skeg-hung rudder for directional stability and balance, providing exceptional handling qualities both under sail and power. For protection against accidental groundings or when careened, the external lead keel extends slightly deeper than the skeg and rudder. The reinforced skeg also allows for a propeller aperture which protects the propeller from being fouled by kelp, lines and debris.

The Pacific Seacraft 31's ballast is 4,700 pounds of lead, secured with twelve 3/4" diameter stainless steel keel bolts. An optional shoal draft scheel keel is available as an alternative not a compromise—for those requiring the ability to sail into waters otherwise inaccessible to deeper draft vessels.

Teak "Butterfly" inserts lock together caprail joints so that they will never separate.

Attention to detail

A conscientious attention to detail sets the Pacific Seacraft 31 apart from most other production boats. The details that can help assure the safety and comfort of any passage, from a weekend's getaway to an extended ocean voyage, are integral to the 31.

30-inch lifeline stanchions provide an extra margin of safety that could be critical in adverse conditions. The stanchions are thru-bolted to stout vertical bulwarks instead of the horizontal decks; thus water is prevented from finding its way through the bolt holes and into the cabin below.

Pacific Seacraft 31 Sailboat Hardware

On most cruising boats a common source of aggravation is the taking on of wind-driven rain and spray under the forward edge of the sliding companionway hatch. On the Pacific Seacraft 31, this potential irritation has been entirely eliminated by a unique companionway and seahood unit. Constructed of teak and fiberglass, with baffles and scuppers molded directly into the cabin top, the unit forms a totally weathertight enclosure over the hatch.

Pacific Seacraft 31 Dodger Isinglass

Ease of sail handling has become a hallmark of the Pacific Seacraft 31. Two-speed self-tailing jib sheet winches allow for easy headsail trimming and a proper mid-boom sheeting arrangement ensure optimum mainsail control. The 31's expansive bridge-deck incorporates a special traveler-track channel that keeps the cockpit clear and the companionway entirely unimpeded.

The Cockpit

The Pacific Seacraft 31's cockpit is a celebration of comfort. Seven foot long seats invite even the tallest crew to stretch out and dream under balmy summer nights. Contoured seat backs make seated watches gratifying. High coamings provide refuge from wind and spray. Three large seat lockers furnish an abundance of storage area for sails and cruising gear. And an ingenious locker utilizing the otherwise dead space of the cockpit coaming provides fully vented and drained stowage for propane or CNG.

The large bridge deck adds to the structural integrity and watertightness in stormy weather, while two oversized cockpit drains allow fast, self-bailing. A 25 GPM bilge pump is mounted thru the cockpit seat riser, always accessible from the helm. Two winch handle boxes are built into the coamings.

Go Forward with Confidence

When you must leave the cockpit, wide side decks, double-rail bow and stern pulpits, 30"-high double lifelines, four teak handrails, and bulwarks from 4"-high amidships to 9" on the foredeck help you go forward with confidence. Auxiliary power for the 31 is provided by a powerful 3 cylinder diesel with freshwater cooling, a water lift muffler system, Racor fuel filter with water separator, Morse controls, and a fully removable 30 gallon fuel tank with cleaning port.

The Pacific Seacraft 31 reflects understanding that security at anchor is as important as security at sea. A massive stainless steel bow platform incorporates two extra heavy-duty anchor rollers, well separated to allow for twin bow anchors. A heavy tubular framework holds the anchor rodes captive, preventing them in even the most violent conditions from leaping down the sidedecks. On the 31's foredeck are two 12" bow mooring cleats with 4" hawse pipes; at the stern are two 10" stern mooring cleats with 9" chocks; amidships are two 8" spring cleats. Forward is a double chain locker for two anchor rodes. Aft is a stern chain locker.

All of the winches, cleats and other deck hardware are of solid polished bronze. The 31's heavy solid teak caprail is hand fitted with butterfly joints. The proper way. The Pacific Seacraft way.

Built to Endure

The 31's fiberglass hull and deck are built to the most rigorous specifications, hand laid and squeegeed for optimum strength to weight ratio. The hull color and boot stripe are molded directly into the gel coat. Chain plates are type 304 stainless steel, thru-fastened to the hull with 1/2" stainless steel bolts and full backing plates.

All thru-hull fittings are solid bronze; those below the waterline have U.L. approved marine seacocks which are bedded in polyurethane and thru-bolted to the hull. Those above the waterline have high quality solid bronze marine ball valves. Heavy duty hoses are secured by two stainless steel hose clamps at each connection.

The vital deck/hull connection is engineered with a double flange bedded in high tensile polyurethane adhesive compound and thrufastened with 1/4" 18-8 stainless steel bolts. It is the strongest, most water-tight connection in existence. The attachment of bulkheads to the hull and deck of a sailboat is critical; large dynamic loads are placed on bulkheads by the strain of mast, rigging and seas. The main structural bulkheads of the Pacific Seacraft 31 are bonded with fiberglass mat and woven roving, then bolted in place to assure uncompromised integrity.

Adding even greater strength and resistance to torsion and flexure is the yacht's highly sophisticated reinforced fiberglass interior module. This module is a basic element in the structural design of the Pacific Seacraft 31', as it is in all Pacific Seacraft yachts. Hull and interior are bonded into one monolithic structure.

The Pacific Seacraft 31 proudly continues a distinguished legacy. Her uncompromised construction inspires the confidence that can make dreams come true. Her superb design, outstanding accommodations and seakindly disposition ensure that every voyage—whether to a distant port or a weekend's getaway—will fulfill that special dream.

Wide Open Comfort

Belowdecks, rich hand rubbed teak joinery radiates in proper counterpoint to a soft white matte finish. Fresh air and sunlight stream through ten polished bronze opening ports.

The interior by Joseph Artese is perfect for a family or for two couples. The spacious main salon is uncluttered and inviting. Two comfortable lounging settees stretch to port and starboard. Teak storage lockers, bins and bookshelves keep personal gear and the ship's library stowed neatly away.

A large dining table slides gracefully from below the vee-berth to comfortably seat six for sumptuous meals. Locked into the compression post with a solid 3/8 " stainless steel pin welded to an internal stainless steel plate, the table utilizes the most solid support system available. When not in use, the table literally disappears.

The settees extend forward under the vee-berth; when fitted with leecloths, these 7'0" berths, located nearly amidships, double as excellent sea berths.

The large vee berth in the forward cabin is 6'6" long and 5'6" wide. Full length shelves and lockers to port and starboard, and drawers underneath provide plenty of stowage. A privacy curtain is provided. In the aft cabin is another large double berth, 6'6" long and 5'0" wide. The amenities include separate storage shelves, a spacious hanging locker and privacy curtain.

The aft head location is convenient to the crew on-watch, and contributes to the openness so appealing in the Pacific Seacraft 31. Within the head compartment is a wet hanging locker and an integral shower pan with a solid teak grate; no need to drag wet gear through the main salon.

The base of the marine head is solid bronze. The stainless steel sink has a bronze pump. Storage lockers, drawers and a teak toiletry locker offer ample stowage. A large 7" by 12" opening port ensures plenty of ventilation.

An Inspiring Galley

The Pacific Seacraft 31's galley is sure to inspire the gourmet on board. There's a remarkable amount of stowage space in cabinets and drawers, including a custom teak dish locker. The 31's cavernous icebox is insulated with poured polyurethane foam and contains an electric pump with overboard discharge. A deep double stainless steel sink with a foot operated pump and a gimbaled stainless steel stove with oven complete the galley arrangement.

The navigator's area contains a large chart table with an ingenious tilt out chart storage locker. A Nav- Com alcove keeps electronics well protected. The master power control panel includes sixteen D.C. circuit breakers, a battery condition monitor, 5 A.C. circuit breakers, and a polarity test circuit; it is hinged for easy access to wiring. The Pacific Seacraft 31 is a lovely yacht. Her accommodations are comfortable and inviting. Her sailing ability is outstanding. And her construction is unsurpassed.
